SOUND AND LIGHTING

For the past 33 years, Starlight has been reinvesting in itself and has purchased a library of sound and lighting equipment - up dating on a regular basis.

We receive no outside funding from any grants or groups. If we have a good year, we spend some of what is left over from rent, insurance, salaries, construction costs, royalties, etc. on some items of new equipment. This year we have a new lighting system.

Hanging Instruments 2004

Students learn techniques to hang, focus, and prepare lights and also to safely wire (without the power) cables to and from the controllers.

They also help to set up and control sound equipment, fog/smoke machines, special effects generators, and many of the lights which are incorporated into the actual set as well as the standard spotlights, floodlights, and worklights which we use.

All of this work is done simultaneously as we rehearse the production on a daily basis.

Throughout all of this, safety procedures are taught and demanded as well as the proper way to handle, and later pack up and store the equipment at the end of the season.

Some of our members go on to work in technical theatre, both film & stage and television.
